Amaru Biopark

The Amaru Biopark Foundation contributes to the protection of the environment by promoting understanding and awareness about themes relating to biodiversity.
Our history is closely intertwined. Aymeric Sonrel, the founder, was trained in the Ecuadorian zoological department by the foundation. During his professional training in their facility, he got the idea to create the Sanctuary to pursue further and complement the Foundation's own project.
Its showed its support to the Puerto Morona Sanctuary from the very beginning, on several levels : economic, logistic, scientific, technological... For example, dispatching teams to collect biologic samples of the area, taking part in the construction process of the sanctuary, establishing a production partnership on the permaculture zone...and many more. They are our ambassadors. Being established already and enjoying a certain reputation, they considerably ease contact with the different actors in the region.
This partnership made the start of the project possible by bringing together the essential resources for a creation in total harmony with the environment. We are thankful to the Foundation for believing in our project of sanctuary. Without it, nothing would have been possible.

Nowadays our collaboration still remains strong. The Foundation is transferring a program for the reintroduction of Amazonian animals to us . And we regularly exchange scientific data and collaborate on protecting and preserving animal species and their habitats.

The Shuar Community

The Shuar community is one of the indigenous people of the Amazonian jungle, having lived there for many generations.
Indigenous culture, due to their lack of writing, is based on the oral transmission of their History (myths, legends and shamanic rituals). They make for excellent guides, having extensive botanic and herbalism knowledge. They are the rightful guardians of these forests and without them, nothing would be possible.

The Sanctuary is lucky to be able to stand with them to protect the forest and its animal life. We share our stories, knowhow and wisdom in an effort to help preserve and safeguard nature and its inhabitants, to the best of our abilities.

Come discover, enjoy and share their culture, craftsmanship, cooking and traditional tales.
